Furniture Finishes – Part 1 Luscious Lacquers

By Lila HOME

Lacquered furniture is the hottest trend that’s really not a trend at all.   This smooth and silky lacquer has been around for decades and has an amazing way of transcending from traditional to contemporary decors and everything in between.  Now adding lacquer to your home is easier than ever with High Performance Furniture Lacquer by Amy Howard Home.

I just attended Amy Howard’s Rescue, Restore, Redecorate training for artisans and learning to use this exclusive product was just one of the finishes we focused on.  I was amazed at how this spray went on so fast and smoothly — not like any spray paint I’ve ever used before.

All you have to do is spray it on and a pale, faded piece can be transformed into an edgy, chic, high-fashion statement piece.

The start of my workshop. Trust me it didn't stay this clean for long.

What is the High Point Furniture Market??

By Lila HOME

We’ve been telling everyone that we will be heading to the High Point Furniture Market this weekend and it dawned on me that many of you might want to know more about this twice per year event.  So here’s a little insight on what we are headed into and how important it is for us to attend.

The World’s Home for Home Furnishings

The High Point Market is the largest furnishings industry trade show in the world, bringing more than 75,000+ people to High Point every six months. Serious retail home furnishings buyers can be found in High Point twice a year because if you can’t find it in High Point…it probably doesn’t exist.

Here’s how it’s laid out:

  1. 180 Buildings
  2. 11.5 Million Square Feet of Showspace
  3. 75,000+ Attendees Each Market
  4. More Than 2000 Exhibitors – featuring furniture, accessories, floorcoverings — basically everything and anything for the interior of any home.
  5. 100+ Countries Represented
  6. Tens of Thousands of New Product Introductions
  7. Approximately 10% of Attendees Are International

It is virtually impossible to see everything so we always go with a plan.

  • What do we need?
  • What are our clients asking for?
  • What are the new introductions?
  • What are the hottest trends and what are the new classic looks that are evolving?

Basically this event is like the mother-ship calling us.

Stay tuned — we’ll be blogging and posting snippets of all we are seeing.

Tweet Tweet!

By Lila HOME

Ah Spring is in the air and hearing the birds chirping outside is such a refreshing sound! I don’t know about you but seeing the sunshine and hearing the sounds of nature makes me feel alive! Especially after such a LONG winter!

Birds also have a way of singing their songs inside of our homes as well. At Lila, we LOVE using our feathered friends for decorative accessories. These ‘chubby birds’ are a Lila FAVORITE!

Small pieces. BIG statement!

By Lila HOME

We are always talking about how accessories are like the jewelry of the home and the room below, created by Lauren Clement of Lauren Nicole Designs, shows just that. The larger furniture pieces below have such a bold impact with their scale, pattern and color that this room needed some strong accessories to finish it off.

The mantle is a huge focal point of the room so it got a high level of attention from Lauren. The two tall rustic lanterns with iron scroll tops flank either side of the mantle and draw your eye up to the custom fit faux iron piece. This room has such height that it demands the scale of these lanterns.

My favorite part of the mantle come in a small little package:) Those three moss spheres in the silver leaf tray provide such an impact in this huge room and I just love them! Lauren loves them too so you may see her use them again!

And for me the two white ceramic doves provide a feeling of nature, of life, of peacefulness in this rich space.

What do you think about the accessories in this room? Could any of them work for you? They are available at http://lilahomedesigns.storenvy.com/!

Transitioning Spaces

By Lila HOME

For the last 10 days, I have been moving — AGAIN!!  I have  moved many times thorughout my adult life and have moved 4 times over the last 5 years due to many reasons.  I’ve had the majority  of our lives in storage over the last few years, so it’s been a while since I’ve seen lots of my stuff.

In going through the boxes, I am finding cherished items that I love and have missed and many things from my mother that I’m so happy to see again.  I’ve also found a lot of “crap”.  Yes that’s right, I have paid good money to  move and store things that should have been thrown away long ago.  Not sure why I’ve been toting around artificial sunflowers that are bent and not so sunny anymore, but lo and behold there they were with several other artificial somethings.

Now this is not a permanent move, but one more “transition space” until we find the best place to land in a year or so.  So I thought it might be great to share with all of you how to make a temporary living situation not look so temporary.

If it’s one thing that I need, it’s to be happy in the space I am in.  Being around beautiful accessories and home furnishings every day at work. only makes me want to be around them more when I come home.  So using a packed cardboard box for an end table will not work for me during this transition.

Here are just a couple of before pics that will give you an idea of where I am starting.  I am in a sea of boxes at the moment, but please stay tuned as I share with you the journey of how to make your transitional space not so transitional feeling.  This topic will be added to over the next several weeks (I hope not months, but we’ll see).

These spaces look even sadder in pictures.  I’ve got to get to work.
